Wahyu Nurul Iman is an animator and visual artist based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. His practice centers on animation as a reflective medium-bridging drawing, movement, and time to explore personal memory, everyday observations, and cultural narratives.
Working primarily with hand-drawn animation and experimental techniques, Wahyu’s films often blur the boundaries between animated painting, experimental cinema, and visual storytelling. His process emphasizes intuition, texture, and transformation, allowing images to evolve organically rather than follow rigid narrative structures.
Alongside directing animated short films and experimental videos, Wahyu actively collaborates with artists and directors across disciplines. He is particularly interested in animation as a collective practice-both as a tool for collaboration and as a shared space for dialogue and reflection.
Wahyu is a graduate of the Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, majoring in Animation. He has worked with various studios and creative projects, while continuing to develop personal works that are shown in screenings, exhibitions, and collaborative art contexts.
